⚠ Important Safety Notice

WNC Trout Predictor is an informational tool only. It is not a substitute for on-site assessment of stream conditions, weather, and personal safety. Always exercise your own judgment before entering any body of water. Mountain streams can change rapidly and without warning. Wading in elevated flows is dangerous and can be fatal.

No Guarantee of Accuracy

The bite quality scores, hatch predictions, flow trend assessments, water temperature estimates, solunar feeding windows, and all other outputs of the WNC Trout Predictor are estimates based on mathematical models and publicly available data. They are provided for informational and entertainment purposes and are not guaranteed to be accurate, complete, or current.

Third-Party Data

The Service relies on data from third-party sources including the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and Open-Meteo. We have no control over the accuracy, availability, or timeliness of this data. Gauge sensors can malfunction, data feeds can be delayed, and reported values may not reflect actual on-site conditions. Water temperature estimates on streams without live sensors use a regression model that is accurate to approximately ±2–3°F under typical conditions but may diverge further during unusual weather events.

Fishing Results

A high bite quality score does not guarantee that you will catch fish. Fishing success depends on many factors beyond the scope of this application, including angler skill, tackle selection, presentation technique, specific location within a stream, and inherent unpredictability of fish behavior. We make no representations about fishing outcomes.

Wading Safety

Flow data displayed in the application reflects USGS gauge readings and may be delayed by 15 minutes or more. Actual stream conditions at your location may differ significantly from gauge readings, especially:

  • During or immediately after rainfall events
  • On dam-controlled tailwaters (e.g., South Holston) where generation releases can raise water levels rapidly
  • At locations upstream or downstream from the gauge station
  • During snowmelt or ice-dam events

Always check conditions visually before entering any stream. If water appears higher, more turbid, or faster than expected, do not wade. Wear appropriate wading gear including a wading belt and consider a personal flotation device in higher flows.

Regulations

Fishing regulations, license requirements, and access rules displayed in the application are provided for general reference only and may not reflect the most current regulations. It is your responsibility to verify current regulations with the appropriate governing agency (NCWRC, TWRA, NPS, EBCI) before fishing. Regulations can change during the season without notice to us.

Assumption of Risk

Fly fishing and wading in mountain streams involves inherent risks including but not limited to slippery surfaces, swift currents, cold water immersion, falling, wildlife encounters, and weather exposure. By using this Service, you acknowledge these risks and assume full responsibility for your personal safety while fishing.

Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, WNC TROUT PREDICTOR, ITS OWNER, DEVELOPERS, AND AFFILIATES SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY PERSONAL INJURY, PROPERTY DAMAGE, LOST FISHING TIME, OR OTHER DAMAGES OF ANY KIND ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF OR RELIANCE ON THE SERVICE, WHETHER BASED ON WARRANTY, CONTRACT, TORT, OR ANY OTHER LEGAL THEORY.

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless WNC Trout Predictor and its owner from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses arising from your use of the Service or violation of these terms.
